Benefits of Selling Handmade Jewellery Through Wholesale Distributors

Written on 17 Январь 2011 – 9:36 | by bahays

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Handmade jewellery making is an excellent profession for the designers with an instinct of making exotic handcrafted jewellery designs. As artists, they do a great job in creating designs that make fashion statements, but on the entrepreneurial front, they often find themselves struggling with their business expansions.

A key method of expanding their business is to introduce their portfolio of work using the wholesale distributor’s channel. Why would they not choose to open their own store? What are the benefits they are going to get using the wholesale distributors for their jewellery? Let us look into some of the very important advantages that they are going to get using jewellery wholesale distributors to spread their products.

For an artist of handmade jewellery the biggest problem of all is managing his finances. Fewer artists realize that if they open their own store in the beginning, all their money will be wasted in opening that outlet and they won’t be able to spend it in buying their material and making more jewellery. By using these wholesale jewellery distribution channels, they won’t have to suffer at the hands of high start up cost for erecting their own store front. The same funds will be channelled to make more jewellery which they can directly sell to the wholesalers. This way all their efforts will be focused on increasing their inventories which are a key asset for a handmade jewellery making artist.

Another advantage that jewellery wholesale distribution has over retailing is the bulk inventory purchasing. Often artists like to sell more inventories through their retail shop, which can be very difficult. But when you are selling your inventories through wholesalers, you can sell more of them thus the cash inflow increases many times, which is an important asset for a new start up business totally dependent on its revenues.

Limited versus unlimited access to different consumer markets is also a key issue. When retailing, handmade jewellery artists can only retail to one or two locations but when wholesaling their product goes into different markets, which significantly reduces their risk as well as dependency on a single consumer market unlike in case of retailing.

Lastly surviving in a retail market as a retailer can be excruciatingly difficult. A new start up handmade jewellery business has to face more competition when sitting in retailing market, but selling through wholesale distributors transfers the risk to the retailers who are actually selling the product.

A start up artist trying to sell his own created handmade jewellery should start from the wholesale market as it would not only increase his chances of survival but also help him establish his business in the longer run.

William King is the director of Wholesale Jewelry. He has 18 years of experience in the marketing and trading industries and has been helping retailers and startups with their product sourcing, promotion, marketing and supply chain requirements.

Landscaping Tips: Japanese Garden Fundamentals

Written on 15 Январь 2011 – 15:27 | by bahays

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The Japanese style of landscaping has the goal of recreating the serenity of a natural environment. Fundamental ingredients used include carefully placed stone, statuary, bonsai, and fish ponds. Bonsai is a traditional technique of training small trees to encourage their growth into certain shapes; it is one of the Japanese arts. Relaxing strolls through the garden are laid out with formal paths.

A number of basic guidelines apply when planning Japanese landscaping. The first being that plants and other elements not be located symmetrically. Nature is asymmetrical. Flowers and trees don’t naturally grow lined up in rows or in square formations. The impression to aim for is a space that does not look man-made.

Another guideline of Japanese landscaping is that it must not be crowded. Because yards can be small, sometimes people want to fit in as many plants as possible. This can easily end up looking chaotic and messy. Just like with the Japanese sense of interior decorating, a minimum of plants cleverly arranged can generate an innate harmony of visual calm.

A roughly triangular pattern appears commonly in Japanese landscaping. For example, there are three plants you want to plant, the largest is located first as an anchor point of the triangle. The next largest becomes the second point on the triangle, and the third largest plant the other point. This arrangement helps balance the aesthetic mass of the three elements.

Symbolic meanings are associated with plants and other elements used in Japanese landscaping. Deciduous trees, for example, like the colorful Japanese maple, stand for the change that is constant all through life, since they show a different aspect of themselves every season. On the other hand, evergreen trees stand firm and stable. In order for something always to be in bloom in the garden, flowers are often planted that will bloom sequentially. The colors seen in a Japanese landscape garden tend to be pastel and subtle. In fact, subtle is a good word to keep in mind when planning out your Japanese landscape garden.

Written on 13 Январь 2011 – 3:48 | by bahays

I’ve been asked if I get many spasms. I get quite a few actually because of both my Cerebral Palsy (CP) and spinal cord injury. I was sitting on my bed a couple of nights ago not being able to do a YouTube video because my body was vibrating too much and decided to so a short video to show you what a typical foot spasm looks like when the bottoms of my feet are not touching my footrest or anything else.

Terrace Gardening And Landscaping Ideas

Written on 12 Январь 2011 – 20:40 | by bahays

Terraces present wonderful possibilities in the garden. They are outdoor living rooms during good weather and form a transition from the outdoors to the indoors throughout the year.

The terrace may be either at ground level, below ground level, or raised above it. The simplest type is ground level, which requires only the grading we have indicated. There is a wide choice of flooring materials to use. One may use cement, poured and levelled with a large board, but in maintaining the drainage grade or including shallow drainage paths, smooth turf may be used, in which case the preparation will be the same as for other lawn areas and various other types of bases.

The use of flagstones is made simple by applying a load of sand or gravel to the subsoil and digging the flagstones into the sand or gravel. The niches between the stones can be dug out and filled with top-soil and grass or other cover planted between them. This gives a very pleasing effect.

Hollow clay building tiles can be split and laid as units in the terrace floor, their rough edges in the soil. Another good surfacing material is “exposed aggregate,” which is free from glare because of its rough finish. For this type of surface, build a form of 2 x 4’s. Pour the flooring in squares, one square at a time, and level with a straight board. The material used is a mixture of cement, sharp sand and crushed rock or pebbles.

Redwood or cypress blocks may also be used for terrace floors and are very attractive, although somewhat less durable than stone or brick. You can buy the blocks cut to size and lay them directly in a bed of sand, which in turn has been laid on compacted gravel or cinder. Un-mortared brick, laid in a pattern, on 2 to 4 inches of well-tamped sand, with loose sand in the crevices for grass, makes a hardy and simple-to-construct terrace floor. The bricks may be laid flat or on end, and to keep them from spreading, drive an angle iron against the corners. Use a pattern that follows the lines of your terrace.

The Sunken Terrace Gardening

A sunken terrace is one which is below ground level. It can be very attractive, and it does give a feeling of coolness on a humid day or a hot night. The sunken terrace requires a retaining wall to prevent soil from continually eroding into it, and also to maintain the topsoil of the surrounding garden. The subsoil must be dug to a depth of about 5 or 6 inches below the level you wish to attain with the terrace itself. The use of sand or gravel as a base is of importance. The top treatment can follow your own dictates.

The Raised Terrace Gardening

The raised terrace is generally not fully raised, but starts at the house level and is raised at its outer edge. Again, a retaining wall is called for. The principle problem with the raised terrace is levelling. Once this is accomplished, and the retaining wall built, construction follows the same procedure as in any other case. Drainage is supplied either by a central drain, going into a tile line, or by underground piping through the retaining wall.

Landscaping and gardening hasn’t always been my occupation, but it has been my passion for a very long time. I inhale landscaping books and magazines. I have lots of backyard landscaping ideas for all the enthusiasts at my site and my blog here: landscaping ideas

Written on 5 Январь 2011 – 22:27 | by bahays

Image : http://www.flickr.com

In this Internet marketing article, the focus is going to be on avoiding the pitfalls of time wasting people. In other words, there are many individuals who we will come into contact with on a daily basis as Internet marketers who will have a tendency to waste our time. Naturally, there is a fine line between providing good customer service to people who have paid us for a product and simply trying to placate people who seem to be bored with nothing else better to do than to correspond with us all the time.

You were better off trying to manage people who seem to request a lot of your time and attention by dealing with them via e-mail. The reason why is because you can then choose the time and place to respond to any question or comment they may have. If you are regularly picking up the phone and having to interact with a person like this in real time, it can dramatically impact your productivity as an Internet marketer.

You really need to do a good job of managing your time if you want to be a successful Internet marketer. As a result, you need to develop the skills necessary to handle people who can sometimes waste your time. It’s hard to explain exactly what this type of person will be like because there are too many variables. However, you will probably know who they are once you encounter one of these people.

Here’s the bottom line: you really need to avoid the pitfalls of time wasting people.

International Positioning Process Versus Branding

Written on 5 Январь 2011 – 7:20 | by bahays

In a recent conversation with a very professional marketing executive there was a moment of confusion between international business positioning and branding.

I thought it would be a good idea to go into this a little here.

The fact is that most business executives work in companies that have long established their basic market positioning. This knowledge and skill has long been filed into the the unconscious expertise sections of their brains.

In many cases, this basic business positioning skill has often been filed away for so long that the skill is almost forgotten.

Positioning Is Key

When you expand into international markets you must review the positioning of your business in this new market. This is one of the first things you need to do.

Your international communication, marketing and sales depends on how you need to position your business in a new foreign market. In fact, how you need to position your business in new foreign markets may end up influencing all aspects of your international business as a whole.

If this is your first time you are taking a business into an international market, you will probably find it hard to get rid of all of your most basic business assumptions.

The assumptions came from positioning your business in your primary market. And the problem is that these assumptions may or may not be wrong.

In fact, some of the biggest international business blunders happen because these assumptions are never questioned.

A Process Gives You The Information

This is why it is important to first create a process to verify how:

  • your business,
  • your product,
  • your offer,

… needs to be positioned inside your new foreign market.

You will probably not be able to do this accurately sitting in your office, miles and miles away from your foreign market.

In fact, you will often need information directly from your foreign markets.

And many times, you will only get answers after you start communicating and selling your products to your new foreign clients.

Now, some large companies have marketers who work on product positioning. That is an advanced aspect of… well… product positioning.

What I am talking about here is positioning your business at its core.

This is why you need a process. A process where you look for, stimulate and analyze information specifically about your positioning.

This Is Not Branding

Now, when I spoke to the marketing executive I mentioned earlier and described this positioning process, she thought it was about branding.

She had grasped it was a process.

A good thing. Many people think it is a one off piece of preliminary research… which can get you into trouble.

But she was putting this process at a higher level and was associating the process with branding.

No.

Positioning is not about branding your company’s image in a foreign country.

To make it easy, let’s use an image…

On Maslow’s Hierarchy Of Needs Pyramid…

  • Branding would be close to the peak of the pyramid - it is what you do once you can sustain survival.
  • International positioning would be close to the bottom of the pyramid - it is one of your first concerns for survival.

How you position your business, your products, your offers, is linked directly to your company’s survival. Get this wrong and you will never make it to international branding.

I have to add a side note here…

The word “branding” takes on different cultural tones in different markets.

  • American branding takes on their strong “individualism” cultural behavioral traits.
  • French branding has an intellectual and “cultural”… or dare I say “snobish”… undertone.
  • British branding is also very interesting… hmm, I can’t quickly find a generalization to describe it, probably because I understand it too well, but it is worth looking at with a critical eye.

If you are working on branding your business in different cultures, beware of different meanings for the word “branding” in different cultures… even when you think you are on the same page, you may not be.

Your Process To Define Your Positioning

So, we have already established how critical it is to get the right positioning for your international business.

And, you understand that you need feedback from your foreign markets to verify your positioning.

Have a look at how MTV had to review its positioning in its Indian market. They were only able to do this because they had a process in place to verify their positioning.
